Top 10 movies that changed my movie viewing experience
My dear friend Imran Asked me to write top 10 movies that completely changed my movie viewing experience. Being a movie freak since childhood I thought 10 movies would not be justify my love for cinema. Movies have always been a part of my life, many movies have shaped me in very different ways. So, here I am sharing top 10 movies along 7 honorable mentions that is absolutely changed my perspective on cinema.
1. The Stonning of SorayaM (2009)- Cyrus Nowrasteh
Stoning of SorayaM is a 2009 Persian-language American film inspired by the 1990 book named La Femme Lapidée. The story sets in a small Iranian village where Sorayas Husband plot to divorce Soraya to marry a 14 year old girl. In order to spare the child support, he accuse Soraya of Adultery and gain Fake witness to prove his charge.. And as per Iranian stoning law, she is stoned to death in the hand of her father, husband, sons and the society. The ache you feel in heart while watching the movie from the beginning to end is unbearable. If you are of a faint heart, I will not recommend it at all. This movie devastated me for weeks and left me with a strong heart to fight the injustice to women. The person who was planning be a doctor, completely U-turned to be lawyer, and all thanks to this movie.
2. The Bucket List (20070- Rob Reiner
This American comedy- drama of two terminally-ill old men in their death bed is full of life. These man in their hospital bed write down the things they wanted to do when they were alive, but never could make it. Amid the little time in hand they decide to kick the bucket once and for all. Sounds so simple right? No its not. This movie is a comedy drama but you will ride in an emotional rollercoster of what you wanna do in life. It not about dying but living your fullest. I have watched this movie a thousand time and every single time is magic.
3. The Shawshank Redemption (1994)-Frank Darabont
I do not think any one needs to explain anything about this movie. It has stood the test of time as one of the best movies ever made and the 9.2 Imdb rating screams the beauty and stature of this movie. Based on the Stephen King novel, this is a tale of freedom, told in a prison.
life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get. and This is the best thing that came out of the box. It follows the story of a boy from Alabama who witnesses and unwittingly influences several defining historical events in the 20th century United States. The slow paced movie is an absolute dream, you laugh, cry, get bemused and astonished, every single second of this movie is a master piece. I love every single part of this movie, but the the part where forest meets his son is an absolute delite. (Available in Netflix)
5. Parasite- Bong Joon-Ho
Parasite, a Korean comedy thriller made history after being the first non-English language movie to win the academy award for best picture (OSCARS 2019). And it was equally deserving for rest four awards as well. Fortunately, I got to watch this movie in the cinema hall and I cannot be more grateful than that. Every single scene in this film is worth a symbolism, the hierarchy, societal structure, greed, inter and intra class conflict is so beautifully presented. From the beginning to the end this movie is a master class. (believe me because I am not usually a fan of OSCAR winning best movie, I find them boring, sorry!! 😏)
6. 3 Idiots - Rajkumar Hirani
3 idiots, the name is enough, isn't it? It navigates the life of three friends and their constant challenge to the education system. Raju, Farhan and Rancho truly motivates everyone to see life outside the rudimentary education system, outside the grades, and outside the societal expectation. See, life is way bigger than a phase and you must jump to everything that it throws at you. This movie must be shown to every teacher who thinks that a only a set of students will succeeded in life. (thats going to be many)
(Available in Netflix)
7. The grave of the Fireflies- Isao Takahata
I am a great great fan of studio Gibli. Everysingle Gibli creation are my favorites. But grave of the fireflies just rings the perfect note in my heart. The animated war tragedy, tells the story of two siblings seita and setsuko, struggling to live their life at the end of second world war. If I had any powers I would change the ending of this movie, because it left me depressed. Yes, anime has the power to do that. (Available in Netflix)
8. Caravan (The Himalaya)- Eric Valli
It is the only Nepali movie ever to be nominated for the International feature films at the 72th Academy award (OSCARS 1999). The movie is based on the life of Sherpas of Dolpo region and their culture and harship they have to go through.
